Mona Munroe-Younis

Mona Munroe-Younis is Founder and Executive Director at Environmental Transformation Movement of Flint (ETM Flint), a Flint, MI nonprofit dedicated to growing diverse grassroots environmental justice leaders and just relationships to secure a healthy, sustainable future by and for Flint residents. In other spheres, she advances environmental, racial, and climate justice as a state-appointed member of the Michigan Advisory Council for Environmental Justice (MAC-EJ), City of Flint Planning Commissioner, and a Racial Healing Practitioner for Flint’s Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation initiative.

Her work builds on more than 15 years of experience in developing partnerships, community organizing and community engagement to advance equitable community investment, and curriculum development/teaching. Prior to working at ETM Flint, Mona served as a neighborhood planner at the City of Flint, liaison between the Flint community and U-M School of Public Health in Ann Arbor for the Flint water crisis response, and organizer/manager of the U-M Flint Center for Civic Engagement. Mona has a Master of Science in natural resources with concentrations in environmental justice and policy from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, a graduate certificate in restorative practices from the International Institute for Restorative Practices, and a Bachelor of Science in environmental science & planning from the University of Michigan-Flint.
